KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching (Hope Place) delivered foodstuffs and other essential items to five needy families in and around here, courtesy of Aqua-Tech Engineering and Marketing Co.

The items included rice, cooking oil, mandarin oranges, soft drinks, cakes, cookies, vegetables, canned food, noodles, Milo and biscuits worth more than RM3,000.

Aqua-Tech manager Jong Bui Kiong and 11 of his staff accompanied Hope Place to deliver the goodies to the families.

According to founder Kelvin Wan, some of the houses they visited could not be accessed by car and they had to carry the items which took about three to five minutes.

In one of the houses, he said the family was not at home because the mother had to bring her disabled child for medical check up at the Sarawak General Hospital.

Besides the goodies, Jong also presented ‘angpow’ to the needy families, he added.

Meanwhile, Jong was happy to be able to assist Hope Place and said he always advocated his staff to love and care for others through charity. He said Saturday was a day-off for his staff but said he was willing to pay the staff overtime to be part of this charity event.

He hoped that through his action, others would be motivated to help the needy constantly, not only during festive seasons.

Hope Place is still short of several essential items including children’s diapers (size XXL), Ensure and Enercal milk powder, Appenton milk powder, Nestle Nutren Diabetik milk and Sustagen 6+(Vanilla) milk. All these food are for the disabled and elderly.

Hope Place is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month; hence many are grateful for the assistance of basic necessities delivered to them. For families with children with special needs or with elderly or disabled people, Hope Place provides milk powder, oat and diapers as well. Hope Place carries out deliveries once every two months to over 160 families.
