KUCHING: Newly-crowned Anugerah Juara Lagu 31 (AJL 31) overall champion Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty will organise a performance in tribute to former Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

She said the show would be apt as Adenan appreciated music.

“I have performed several times in front of Tok Nan and I do know that he loved music very much,” she said in a telephone interview on Monday.

“I am also looking forward to organise a more proper tribute show to him with several other singers.”

She said dedicating the winning song ‘Lelaki Teragung’ to Adenan pushed her to take the performance to another level.

“I received lots of requests from Sarawakians prior to the competition who wanted me to perform the song and dedicate it to our late Chief Minister. I got determined to deliver my best with a great performance – a performance to be  remembered – and was delighted to witness that it moved thousands of people,” she said.

“I am very happy and grateful for this win. To be honest, I did not expect to win with tough competition from all the finalists but I am extremely proud of this achievement as I know that my talent is well appreciated.”

The song composed by Natasyah with lyrics by Iman Imran received RM50,000, a trophy and other prizes.

The best vocals prize of RM12,000 and a trophy also went to Dayang Nurfaizah – her third win in the category since 2001.

Meanwhile, fellow Sarawakian Hafiz Suip was AJL 31 first runner-up for the duet ‘Terimaku Seadanya’ with Misha Omar composed by Ajai, which won RM35,000 and a trophy.
