Ex-convict detained for burglary, drug abuse

TAWAU: Police arrested a former convict for alleged burglary and drug abuse, and seized a penknife and seven handphones, believed to be stolen items, from him on Wednesday.

District police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said also seized were a watch, a pair of blue short pants, a box of cigarettes and a pack of syabu from the suspect.

He was tested positive for drug abuse and was remanded for investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“The suspect had been arrested previously for narcotics in 2014 and 2015. He would be investigated in respect of a burglary case that occurred at Taman Setia on January 14. A 30-year-old complainant had claimed that he had lost an Acer laptop, a watch, 10 pieces of Dinar Iraq currency worth RM9,400, and a hand phone bag. The estimated loss was about RM10,000,” he said yesterday.

Police also detained an illegal immigrant at an unnumbered house along Jalan Apas, Batu 5, here on Wednesday on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle which was reported missing on January 22.

The suspect led a police team to a hut in front of his house where he had hidden a red Honda EX5 motorcycle.      Initial investigation showed that the suspect was seeking a buyer for the motorcycle.

Fadil said the suspect had been arrested previously for not possessing valid personal documents and was also tested positive for drug abuse.

He was remanded for investigation under Section 379 A of the Penal Code.
