UCTS plans to set up Science and Technology Park at Sibu campus

KUCHING: University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) in Sibu is planning to have its own Science and Technology Park next door to it.

This projects aims to support the ‘techno-entrepreneur’ development and also to provide the high-technology infrastructure needed for activities involving industrial-based research, development and innovation run in collaboration with other institutions as well as industries in the region.

In addition, UCTS provides the route and opportunities for certificate and diploma-level students of technical and vocational education to pursue oriented bachelor programmes and also postgraduate studies at UCTS, which offers foundation, degree and postgraduate programmes.

The one-year foundation programme prepares school-leavers for entry into the degree programmes at UCTS. The university offers Foundation in Science and Foundation in Arts.

For degree studies, UCTS is offering 12 honours programmes – Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical and Electronics, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Food Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering), Bachelor of Computer Science (Network Computing) and the latest, Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering.

UCTS also conducts PhD in Business Management, PhD in Engineering, Master of Science in Business Management  (by research), Master of Business Administration (taught course), and Master of Engineering.

“The introduction of postgraduate programmes is expected to strengthen UCTS R&D (research and development) activities,” said a UCTS spokesperson.

UCTS has three intakes for its degree programmes namely February, April and September; and two intakes for foundation studies (May and September), and two intakes for postgraduate programmes (February and September).

UCTS will be participating in the Eighth Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF) to take place at Vivacity Megamall here from March 11 to 12 this year – running from 10am to 7pm daily.

BPIEF 2017 will host about 50 exhibitors, with 75 booths confirmed. The organiser expects to receive 8,000 visitors this year.
