SIBU: A total of 112 diploma students of Kolej Laila Taib will receive their scrolls at the institution’s fifth annual graduation ceremony, to take place at the Regalia Ballroom of Kingwood Hotel here this Saturday (Feb 18).
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to officiate at the ceremony.
Forty-nine out of the total 112 graduates are students of Diploma in Business Management, 24 in Diploma in Quantity Surveying, 19 in Diploma in Architecture, 13 in Diploma in Civil Engineering, and seven in Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Kolej Laila Taib was established in honour of the late Datuk Patinggi Dr Laila Taib, for her selfless dedication and philanthropic commitment to many young Sarawakians particularly in the field of education.
Zero-tuition fee has been offered to all students since 2010 under the Laila Taib Scholarship programme, to ensure that young Sarawakians could have access to tertiary education – at least to diploma level – without adding to their financial burden.
Under the Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private College (MyQUEST), the college was awarded by the Ministry of Education a five-star rating in the ‘College-Based Category for 2014/2015’.
It also achieved a four-star rating in ‘Cluster Based Categories’ under ‘Social Science, Business and Law’, and a five-star rating in ‘Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction Category’.
The diploma programmes at Kolej Laila Taib have obtained full accreditation from Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as well as recognition from the Public Service Department (JPA).
With these accreditation and recognition, graduates can pursue higher learning at any local or overseas university, and can also opt to work at either private or government sector.
