KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching came to the aid of a disabled father, Lobo Dawi, 36, to help relieve the family’s burden recently.

Lobo became paralysed after a hit-and-run motorcycle accident seven months ago. He and his family moved from Sri Aman and are temporarily staying at his relative’s house here as he needs to commute to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatments. He needs Ensure milk (which costs over RM70 per tin) and L-sized adult diapers, which his family cannot afford.

He sleeps in the living room as there is not enough room in his relative’s house. His wife takes care of him full-time. His eldest daughter is studying at secondary school, his middle daughter is in primary school while his youngest child – a boy who is only two years old.

Their only income is from the Welfare Department which is a monthly aid of RM300. Lobo has applied for Social Security Organisation (Socso) aid which is pending approval.

Hope Place was alerted to Lobo’s plight by Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang. Lo also gave the family a donation and a mattress when he personally visited them.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan and his team visited Lobo to hand over food items like rice, cooking oil, Milo powder, biscuits, noodles, salt, sugar, adult diapers and Ensure milk.

Hope Place is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that visits poor and less-fortunate families to contribute essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month and are grateful for the assistance derived from these basic necessities delivered to them. For families with children with special needs, or with elderly people, Hope Place provides milk powder and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients’ list. There are more than 160 families on the list presently.

Currently, Hope Place is short of children’s diapers size-L and XXL; Ensure, Enercal, Sustagen 6+(Vanilla) and Appeton milk powder; and Nestle Nutren Diabetik milk.

For more information, call Hope Place at 013-5672775 or 082-683378 between 9am–noon and 2pm–5pm, Mondays to Fridays; and 9am– noon on Saturdays.

For those interested to make a donation, request for a receipt from the staff at Hope Place. For direct bank-in, bank in to Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching Maybank account number 5112-8900-1160.
