LIMBANG: Ongoing cooperation between all members of the Sarawak Bisaya Association (PBS) and the locals could help bring positive changes to Kampung Bidang – a prominent Bisaya community in this division well known for their artistic culture and traditional craftsmanship.

Kampung Bidang headman Lukong Simpok is confident of this, seeing that the present development in the area which includes a community hall, a futsal court and a preschool is proof of the great impact that could be derived from such strong cooperation.

“The villagers want this to continue and as such, they strive to enhance their cooperation further in the hope that it would bring in more development to the ‘kampung’ (village),” he said in opening PBS Kampung Bidang sub-branch’s annual general meeting (AGM) at the village community hall yesterday, where PBS secretary-general Gumbang Pura and its committee member Augustine Pudon Enak were  also present.

The AGM also served to elect and announce the sub-branch’s new office-bearers for the 2017-2018 term.

The chairman is still Edward Bolot Yakut following his re-election. He is assisted by deputy chairman Daman Baba, secretary John Hidup and treasurer Mohd Hairulnizam Abdullah.

The respective assistant secretary and assistant treasurer are Ammy Adrian Edward and Panggil Baba.

The committee members are Catherine Damit Siba, Mambang Laki, Listenly Luis Lawai, Biar Lamit and Tawang Siba.

In his speech as chairman, Edward assured all local Bisayas that he would uphold and continue the vision of the association of helping to bring progress and enhance the livelihood of every member of the community.

“We have outlined a number of activities throughout the term, including the participation of members in this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival in Kuching, this July,” he said.
