MARUDI: Marudi police last Friday held a crime prevention meeting with local community leaders to discuss efforts at reducing crime in the district.
The meeting, held at Marudi Police Station was chaired by Baram OCPD DSP Gabriel Risut and attended by district police officers and representatives of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Neighbourhood committees, 1Malaysia Community and Rukun Tetangga.
Gabriel briefed those present on efforts taken by the police to combat crime and drug abuse and how the local community could help in efforts at combating crime.
He revealed that police would hold similar meeting with Oil Palm Plantation managers in Marudi District soon towards maintaining law and order in the plantations.
He noted that police had received several reports of fights among plantation workers, many of whom were foreign nationals.
He said if such incidents were not curtailed, it could develop into ethnic clashes and more serious issues.
