SIBU: Social media network is again blamed after a girl who met a stranger through Internet chats ended up being raped.
The 15-year-old first met the construction worker on an online chat last December.
After developing a online romance with him, she met the 28-year-old at his construction site hostel at Perpati Road in January.
The girl is said to have met him there twice and they had intimate relationship in his room on both occasions.
The last incident is said to have occurred on Feb 5.
Their relationship was known to the girl’s mother, and after being pressed by the mother, the girl confessed their intimate relationship on Sunday.
The girl’s mother lodged a police report that night.
The construction worker was arrested yesterday afternoon at his worksite.
The police are expected to remand him today.
Sibu police chief ACP Saiful Bahri confirmed having received the report.
He said the police had arrested the suspect for further probe.
