LIMBANG: The Barisan Nasional (BN) has a good system of subsidy rationalisation to lighten the burden of less fortunate groups.

Assistant Minister for Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the government continued for affected groups, subsidies that covered health, education and economy.

“The rationalisation of subsidy and direct assistance are testimony the government cares about the people’s welfare so they too enjoy a better quality of life. This is in line with the nation’s aspiration to achieve the status of high income nation,” he said after presenting compassionate aid under the Agrofood Flood Disaster Relief Fund to farmers in Limbang District here yesterday.

Also present were Limbang Agriculture officer Rosahhajah Mohidi and her deputy Alex Ding, Limbang Fama officer Mohd Nor Arbie Bujang and Agrobank Limbang manager Surinah Nayan.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman said the national economy was still stable despite the world economic downturn, and many negative assumptions concerning Malaysia.

He reminded village headmen to discharge effectively duties entrusted to them by the government.

“As grassroots leaders, village headmen ought to discharge their duties with all honesty and ensure that those under their care are not missed out from the list of compassionate aid recipients,” he stressed.

The aid, he said, is to alleviate the suffering of those whose crops were destroyed by major floods in Limbang in 2015.

Earlier, Rosahhajah said the compassionate aid under the Agrofood Flood Disaster Relief Fund of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry covered damage to crops like paddy, fruits, and agro-based related industry, aquaculture and livestock.

During the function a total of RM763,000 was handed over to 763 recipients under the first phase of aid disbursement.
