KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will be contesting in not less than 13 state constituency seats in the upcoming election.

Its secretary general, Datuk Johnny Mositun, said, although PBS had lost a few of the seats in the previous election, the party is now prepared to defend the remaining seats that they hold.

He added that if PBS were to be offered some seats from the 13 new state constituency seats, the party will be ready to take on the responsibility.

Commenting on the new proposed seats, Johnny said the new seats are expected to be tabled in Parliament which will be commencing on March 6.

According to Johnny, the new seats have gone through the necessary processes in the state, including public hearing, finalized by the Election Commission in the state and sent to the authorities in Putrajaya.

The proposed seats are Bengkoka, Mengaris, Pintasan, Pantai Dalit, Darau, Tanjung Dumpil, Limbahau, Tulid, Telupid, Sungai Manila, Lamag, Segama and Kukusan.

This means that there will be state seats added to each of the current parliamentary constituencies in Sabah, namely, Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Sepanggar, Putatan, Papar, Pensiangan, Beluran, Libaran, Kinabatangan, Silam and Kalabakan.

The proposed seats will increase the number of state seats from 60 to 73.

Mositun also disclosed that Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin will officiate at the Sabah State Assembly sitting on April 6.

Johnny said yesterday that several Bills would be tabled in the State Assembly which will sit until April 13. However, he could not disclose the number and contents as there has been no confirmation yet.

He added a number of questions had also been submitted to the State Assembly.
