MIRI: About 400 cyclists have confirmed their participation in the Miri International Century Ride 2017 on March 26.

Chairman of Miri City Council’s (MCC) tourism development standing committee Councillor Ernest Goh said this first sport tourism event was being organised by the council’s tourism standing committee and Masterpiece Cycling Club of Pujut.

“Being the first event of its kind in Sarawak, it has received good response not only from the country but also from Brunei,” he told a press conference after chairing an organising committee meeting for the event at the council chamber yesterday.

Goh believed the organisers would be able to achieve its ultimate target of 500 participants with such good response so far.

The event organising chairman Jack Ho said the participants would cycle120km from here to Lambir and Bekenu and back.

“The race will start at 7am with the starting point at Jalan Merpati (in front of Permaisuri Imperial City Mall). They will cycle to Lambir, and Bekenu and back to the starting point.”

Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin has been invited to flag off the ride challenge.

Ho said entry was still open and those interested have until March 20 to register. The fee is RM130 per participant.

“The challenge is divided into various categories which offer attractive prizes to the winners. Participants also stand a chance to win RM10,000 worth of prizes at the  lucky draw session.”
