MIRI: SM Sains has done it again in the 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams, earning a School Average Grade (GPS) of 1.99 which makes the school the second best in Sarawak and the best in Miri.

It was tears of joy for all 64 SPM candidates of the high performing school yesterday following the announcement of SPM results nationwide.

According to its principal Mohd Dzul Badzli Abdullah, the school obtained a 100 per cent pass in this year’s assessment, with 15 students achieving straight A’s.

“In 2015, our GPS was 2.11 and this year, the students have proven that they have done it and all their efforts have paid off.

“I would like to thank the parents and teachers for the commendable outcome in this year’s SPM results.

“I hope these students will be ready for the future that they will face, maintain their performance, prove to the world that they are capable of giving the best wherever they are and maintain the good name of our school,” he said, adding the students are always welcome to visit the school and encouraged them to contribute back to the school.

Meanwhile, one of the school’s 15 straight-A scorers, Juneiro Jinil from Sri Aman, attributed his success to the time spent with his friends.

“I really like learning and I always shared anything that I know with my friends. If my friends required anything, I acted as a teacher and taught them whatever they needed to know.

“I focused in class and always asked teachers questions. When I felt sleepy in class, I forced myself not to fall asleep as I always filled my time with sports activities after school and I studied till late,” said the third of four siblings who aspires to be a Chemistry teacher.

Another straight-A student, Adi Jitwil, said group study was the secret of his success.

“I also spent time to study on my own and I tried to reduce my recreational activities as I wanted to focus more on my studies.”

Hailing from Lundu, Adi whose father passed away three years ago, wishes to pursue his studies in Japan and getting an A in his SPM Japanese language paper has strengthen his resolve to study engineering in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Both Adi and Juneiro are students adopted under the boarding school’s (SBP) ‘Projek Khas’ in which deprived students from low income families are given assistance by the Ministry of Education.

Also present yesterday was SM Sains Parent-Teacher Association chairperson Nazri Ahmad Lai.
