SARIKEI: Healthy activities should be planned to involve as many participants as possible.

Tanjung Manis MP Datuk Norah Tun Rahman said this when officiating at the closing and prize presentation for the Footdrill Contest for uniformed units.

The contest was organised by the Parent-Teacher Association of SK Sarikei in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity office here yesterday.

Norah said parents should encourage their children to join uniformed bodies to occupy their free time, and to steer clear of unhealthy activities.

The event involved five uniformed units from SMK Bandar Sarikei Baru for the secondary school category, and four uniformed units from the host school for the primary school category.

Norah commended the organisers for holding the event and hoped it would be organised annually to involve all schools in Sarikei and Tanjung Manis parliamentary constituencies.

In the secondary school category, Cadet Police contingent emerged champion while Bomba Cadet and Boys Scout were first and second runners-up respectively.

In the primary school category, Red Crescent Unit was champion followed by Boys Scout and Girls Guide in second and third places respectively.

Among those present were Sarikei District Officer Christopher Ranggau and civic centre manager Andrew Wong.
