KUCHING: Saradise is calling aspiring artists to take part in their ‘Kuching For Me’ design contest in a quest to find artwork that best displays love for Kuching.

According to Saradise, another purpose of the competition is to display the best Kuching-related artwork at their gallery called Saradise Gallery.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference held at tHe Spring shopping mall yesterday, Saradise corporate marketing communication manager Si Kok Leong said the contest is open to all residents and visitors to Kuching aged 15 years old and above.

“Tell us your dream for Kuching through art. Submit your entry and personal details to www.KuchingForMe.com from Mar 6, 2017 to May 7, 2017 before 11.59pm. Visit website www.KuchingForMe.com for detailed guidelines on submission,” she said.

Entries can be from an individual, duo or group. The winner will receive RM5,000 cash while first and second runners-up RM2,500 and RM1,000 respectively, and a consolation prize of RM100 to 12 other winners. Four professional judges who are well known artists themselves will preside over the contest. This year, the panel of judges will comprise Dr Yakup Mohd Rafee, Mohamad Faizuan Mat, Sylvester Jussem and Awangko’ Hamdan Pengiran Arshad.

“These four judges are also art lecturers with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and have vast experience. We are proud to have them on the panel,” Si said.

During the press conference with the other judges, Dr Yakup said although they were university lecturers, they were not expecting university level arts.

“What’s important is that the ideas are fresh and original. We want contestants to amaze or even surprise us with their submissions,” Dr Yakup said.

Submissions should be unique and contain a message that displays love for Kuching. Contestants get to choose the format or combination of format for their artwork. Youngsters are encouraged to join.
