Man arrested for exploiting two young children

TAWAU: Police have arrested a 47-year-old local man suspected of exploiting two children in his business of selling roasted peanuts in the town here.

District police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said the suspect was arrested at an unnumbered house at Kampung Titingan, Jalan Tawau Lama here.

He said the suspect would be investigated under Section 14 of Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 which carries jail term of not less than three years and not more than 20 years and fines.

Fadil said the police also  rescued the two boys, aged nine and 11, while selling roasted peanuts at Celcom premises, Fajar area here about 10.15pm on March 22.

The two boys told police during interrogation that they worked for the suspect, he said.

The police also seized 20 packets of roasted peanuts and seven packets of kuaci in a basket from the nine-year-old boy and eight packets of roasted peanuts and 19 packets of kuaci in a basket from the 11-year-old boy.
