KUCHING: A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation for a missing elderly woman at Kampung Stass in Bau entered the third day yesterday, with rescuers concentrating on two locations.

Yesterday’s operation, which began at 8.30am, saw 47 villagers join personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), police, army and Civil Defence Force to look for Rigek Moseng, 73, who was last seen on March 31.

A Bomba spokesperson said the SAR operation focused on two locations namely Kampung Pelaman Bo’ow and Kampung Sebobok, after locals claimed to have seen the septuagenarian there on the day she was last seen.

“The SAR members split into two groups to search the jungles of Kampung Pelaman Bo’ow and Kampung Sebobok, as witnesses claimed to have seen the victim at these places on March 31,” said the spokesperson, adding the SAR operation began on Sunday following a call received at 4.05pm.

Meanwhile, searchers reported the discovery of some of Rigek’s personal belongings – her bracelet, high blood pressure medication, and a length of sarong – confirmed as hers by family members.

“The items were discovered in the jungle about two kilometres from Kampung Pelaman Bo’ow, which is near Kampung Stass.”

The SAR operation was halted at 6pm with no new leads on Rigek’s whereabouts, and is slated to resume at 7am today.
