KUCHING: Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (SGPA) is appealing to the government to allocate a piece of state land to build the association’s premises.

SGPA president Julaihi Ismail said his side had already voiced out this appeal during last year’s annual general meeting (AGM), but they have yet to receive any feedback from the state government.

“We requested for this last year. This time, we are requesting again. We look forward to the state government allocating a piece of land to us,” he said during SGPA’s 45th AGM at Dormani Hotel where Assistant Minister for Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais officiated at the opening ceremony yesterday.

Naroden who is also Assistant Minister for Entrepreneur Development represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at the function.

Julaihi hoped that Naroden would convey the request to Abang Johari who is expected to arrive at a decision in favour of SGPA.

Julaihi also requested for the state government to allocate annual grants for SGPA to carry out activities for its members.

In response, Naroden pledged an allocation of RM20,000 for the association and at the same time, assured the pensioners that he would bring up the land request to the chief minister.

Naroden also hoped SGPA would continue running more activities for its members who, in turn, should continue contributing to the society even during their retirement.

To date, SGPA has 7,400 members across the state.
