KUCHING: A woman and her elderly adoptive mother were beyond shocked when the back section of their house at Kampung No. 6 along Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here collapsed during the downpour yesterday.

In the 3pm incident, Rofiah Dara and Dara Takip – aged 54 and 77, respectively – were inside their room when they heard a loud bang, which they thought was the thunder.

“It was only moments later that we realised the back of our house had collapsed,” she told reporters yesterday.

Rofiah, who is unemployed and is living with colostomy (part of her colon is diverted to an artificial opening in the abdominal wall), is reliant to aid from the Welfare Department and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

Rofiah and her mother are temporarily staying at a relative’s house, while waiting for assistance from the village security and development committee (JKKK) to rebuild their house.

Upon receiving an alert, members of the Civil Defence Force (APM) rushed to the site to help transport Dara, who is bed-ridden, to the relative’s house nearby.

It is learned that Rofiah’s house was built under the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT). However, the wooden house is in a very dilapidated condition.
