KUCHING: A seamstress was able to get back her handbag sans cash, after snatch thieves discarded it along with her mobile phones into a bush at Jalan Semaba.

The 57-year-old woman fell victim to a lone motorcyclist behind a row of shophouses at Jalan Satok around 11am Tuesday and blacked out after falling to the ground hitting her head.

Later the same afternoon, the woman’s son managed to track the movement of her mobile phone and notified the police, who then accompanied him to a bush by the roadside at Jalan Semaba where they found the seamstress’ handbag.

A search of the bag found all of the woman’s belongings and documents were still inside except for the about RM350 in cash.

It is believed the snatch thief had only taken the money and left behind the woman’s two mobile phones to avoid being tracked and then caught in possession of the stolen devices.

In a separate incident, a kindergarten in Pending lost its pupils’ school fees and electronic devices following a break-in on Tuesday.

The matter was discovered around 8am when an employee arrived at work and saw the kindergarten’s office had been ransacked.

There were, however, no visible signs of forced entry on either the door or windows of the office, with a subsequent check revealing the theft of two laptops, a television set, and about RM4,000 in school fees.

Police are investigating.
