MIRI: The submission of activities for Miri May Fest 2017 is still open to anyone interested with the closing date on April 28 this year.

A spokesperson of Miri City Council (MCC) said so far the council has received 45 proposals on various activities to be held throughout the month of May.

“Organisations, associations and clubs are welcome to submit their activities for Miri May Fest 2017’s Calendar of Events.

“The council will go through the details and only activities that suit May Fest would end up on the festival’s calendar of events this year.”

Miri May Fest 2017 will project a series of activities for the month of May to promote Miri as a most liveable resort city.

The highlight of the festival is a celebration to commemorate the 12th anniversary of Miri attaining city status on May 20, 2005.

On proposed events for the May Fest, she told the organisers they have to ensure their activities meet some of the criteria set by the council.

“Before proposing events for May Fest, the organiser must ensure they can pull in the crowd. Apart from being open to the public, international events must have a convincing number of participants from foreign countries.

“The concept for the event can be cultural and arts, sports, youth, musical, dancing and singing, charity food fair and trade fair.”

Those interested can get from the council a form to list down proposed events for Miri May Fest 2017.

These forms must be returned to the council for approval by April 28 this year.

The completed forms can be emailed to the council at [email protected] or fax 085-435602 for the attention of Jenifer Leku of MCC’s Public Relations Section.

The council reserves the right to accept only appropriate events for the calendar of events.
