MIRI: Construction on the new Abu Bakar As Siddiq Surau in Desa Senadin is expected to be completed in time for Terawih prayers during Ramadan next month.

Building committee secretary Mohamad Abdullah said construction on the surau started in the middle of last year and work has progressed according to schedule.

He said the contractor is currently completing the interior of the main hall, while two toilets and wudhu area located in another building beside the main prayer hall have been completed.

“Muslims in Desa Senadin

and the surrounding housing estates can perform their Terawih prayers at the new surau this Ramadan and it can cater to more people,” Mohamad said yesterday.

He added the committee will hold a meeting on the second phase of the surau construction project, including fencing and other facilities, once construction on the main building is completed.

Muslims in the area are currently using a rented corner lot, which cannot accommodate the number of worshippers, particularly during Ramadan.
