MIRI: IBS College yesterday launched four postgraduate programmes in partnership with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
The four postgraduate programmes are Corporate Master in Business Administration (CMBA), Master of Science in Human Resource Development, Master of Science in Learning Science and Master of Advanced Information Technology.
With this partnership, IBS College has been appointed as Unimas’s Learning Centre in Miri – the first in Northern Sarawak.
The event took place at Imperial Palace Hotel, jointly officiated by IBS president and CEO Dr Antony Hii and the Vice Chancellor of Unimas Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi and witnessed by Piasau assemblyman Dato’ Sebastian Ting and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.
In his speech Hii said: “Today, we are celebrating the success of the partnership discussion which started on November 2015 between Unimas and IBS College and we pleased to offer four postgraduate programmes in partnership with Unimas which will provide opportunities to local university graduates in Northern Sarawak and also the international students of neighbouring countries such as Brunei and Indonesia to pursue their postgraduate studies in Miri.”
Hii also revealed the CMBA programme has been well-received as 14 students have applied for the programme and their application approved.
“Working with UNIMAS to offer postgraduate programmes means there is a step higher than what we have been doing. It means there is a bigger challenge for all of us, to continue our tradition and belief in the provision of quality education. I would like to assure that IBS College will become the best partner in terms of quality and business development of Unimas,” Hii added.
Hii said he had proposed to the Vice Chancellor of Unimas to consider approving IBS College to offer Unimas bachelor programmes as each year more than 2500 STPM and diploma graduates in Miri were looking to continue their higher education.
“With the partnership with Unimas, I am very sure there are many opportunities that open for both institutions to explore,” he concluded.
Meanwhile Mohamad Kadim said the collaboration would provide more opportunities for students in Northern Sarawak to continue their higher education with Unimas.
Ting who also spoke, concurred with Mohamad Kadim and Hii and thanked Unimas for bringing quality education to Miri.
“This will help to increase the reputation of Miri City as an education hub in Sarawak and also to attract more international students to come to Miri for higher education.”
