SIBU: Hundreds of Christians gathered at the St Mary’s of the Divine Mercy Church to celebrate the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS), Sibu branch’s Easter Joy event on Sunday.

This year, the Roman Catholic Church hosted the celebration with the theme ‘Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever’.

The event is an annual celebration organised by the ACS Sibu branch to celebrate Easter, gathering Christians from different denominations including

Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist and Borneo Evangelical Mission.

In her welcoming address, ACS chairwoman Pastor Ting Leh Na thanked all Christians for their support towards the celebration.

She urged Christians to continue to work together in unity and to shine for Jesus Christ to create a better society, not just in Sibu but nationwide.

In his Easter message, Bishop of Sibu Right Reverend Joseph Hii Teck Kwong from the Roman Catholic Church said Jesus’ resurrection restored the joy of all Christians who had been pained by suffering and anger.

“The key to removing the anger and bringing back that joy is the forgiveness of sins,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the programme included listening to the word of God, prayer for needs, love offerings, benediction and fellowship.

The praise and worship session and singing of hymns was led members of Holy Trinity Covenant Community (HTCC).

President of Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC), Methodist Church Reverend Dr Tie King Tai led the closing prayer for the event.

The Methodist Church will host next year’s Easter Celebration.
