KUCHING: The uniqueness of Sarawak could be the inspiration for fashion and lifestyle designers to create a signature product which is vibrant and has the potential to penetrate the international market.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the venture is made easier by the state government’s move under Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to embrace digital economy.

“This is the new way forward for fashion and lifestyle designers to market their products in a more effective manner.

“Thus, I would like to congratulate the organiser Anna Sue of the Eid into style: Runway Trend Show, which gathered all local-based talents in the fashion industry, who are waiting to be exposed and developed further.

“Here, we could actually see the talents of Sarawak’s fashion designers and lifestyle designers who are very creative. As such, our creativity comes from different environments which is made up of many ethnic groups no else than 28 ethnic groups and each one has their own culture and tradition.

“And this is where our fashion designers can get their ideas from and that should be our signature which is uniquely Sarawak,” she told reporters when launching the Eid into style: Runway Trend Show at Riverside Majestic Hotel here recently.

Meanwhile, Fatimah urged the fashion and lifestyle designers to tap into the advancement of technology in promoting their respective products, not only for the local market but also the international market.

“In the past we have heard of big names like Tom, now we know of individuals like Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, she has became a millionaire and also made it into the Forbes list as one of the successful and influential individuals.

“Therefore, we would like to see more Sarawakians emulate her success,” Fatimah added.

Eid into style: Runway Trend Show is a project organised by The Fashion & Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Association (FLSEA) led by renowned Sarawak-based designer Anna Sue.

The objective of the newly formed FLSEA is to increase the visibility of emerging and established local fashion and lifestyle entrepreneurs by providing them opportunities to expand and display their works at any possible platform.
