SIBU: The first Artistic Gaming Entertainment (Age) Convention will be held at the Sibu Indoor Stadium on June 9-11.

Sanyan Road Recreational Club president Richard Lee said the convention to be held from 10am till 9pm daily is in conjunction with Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2017.

“This is the first and largest AGE Convention to be held in the state with the most content. The content comprises artistic and comic gallery, sculptor and handicraft (both traditional and modern), board games and E-sports (console and PC gaming), and cosplay.

“The objective is to create a platform for young people to come and compete with each other,” Lee told thesundaypost during a preview yesterday.

He said the club plans to hold a larger scale event next year and called for the Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) continued support.

“For the artistic part – we have a new category to be held in the indoor stadium, where there will be 15 plywood (walls) for mural painting where 15 contestants will show their works of art throughout the three-day duration.

“This is live painting inside the indoor stadium.

“In addition to that, four artists have been invited from Penang, Kuching and Sibu to draw on four T-walls, which are designed to draw like on a wall. Then, there are the sculptures, where there are 50 to 100 statues ranging from superheroes to villains,” he explained.

Participation fees are RM125 for Dota 2, RM45 for Fifa PlayStation 4, as well as RM10 for solo cosplay and RM20 for group, with the closing date for all being the end of next month.

“We have other competitions like Street Fighter, Tekken and Naruto, which are for walk-in registration,” added Lee.

Meanwhile, United People’s Party (UPP) Community Service Board (Sibu) chairman Datuk Andrew Wong said the AGE Convention directly targets youths.

“It gives them an opportunity to explore their creative potential while having fun at the same time. This is one of the very few events which gives the young generation a platform to fully express themselves in an environment which is catered for them specifically,” he said.

“There is a great need to have a platform that explores and nurtures the artistic side of the youths because art and culture are important traits to develop the youths.”

Early-bird tickets available until June 8 are RM35 for three days, while walk-ins are RM25 for a single day or RM55 for three days.
