SIBU: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) should have its own premises as its headquarters to ensure efficiency in its administration.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong suggested this at the Pre-Gawai and 8th anniversary celebration of SDNU Sibu Jaya branch at Sibu Jaya last Sunday.

He said having a headquarters is not only for better administration and management of the organisation but it is also crucial for the Dayak community as a whole.

“Just like the Chinese associations or other associations who have their own premises, SDNU must move forward with the development of today’s technology.

“Although SDNU has been active and plays an important part for the Dayak people, we still have obstacles and have limitations as we still do not have a ‘roof’ of our own until today,” he pointed out.

He said SDNU had never failed to play its role in uniting the Dayak community in the state.

He thus hoped that leaders of SDNU could come up with a plan to establish its own premises to serve as SDNU headquarters.

“With our own headquarters, it would be easier for our administration works and could bring our organisation forward to greater heights and in the end will benefit the Dayak community,” he said.

He also praised SDNU Sibu Jaya branch for playing its part well in uniting the Dayak community in Sibu Jaya, stressing that the Dayak community must stay united.

He urged those staying in Sibu Jaya to give priority to their children’s education for their better future.

At the event, Ugak presented education incentives to students who obtained excellent results in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Penilaian Tingkatan 3 (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

Those receiving the incentives were Pamella Elisha Man (UPSR), Ellriena Hilsar Hilary (PT3), Desmond Pidom David (SPM), Alistair Engkilan Anthony (SPM), Teresa Rinda Julai (SPM), Aaron Bujil Chua (SPM), Aserah Jawi (SPM) and Ellita Hilsar Hilary (SPM).

Ugak announced a grant of RM5,000 for SDNU Sibu Jaya branch for their activities.

Also attending the event were Ugak’s wife Datin Leyta Kupa, political secretary to the chief minister Michael Tiang, SDNU Sibu Jaya branch chairman Jaya Steven Rom, SDNU Sibu branch chairman Chambai Lindong, SDNU Rajang branch chairman Major Moses Ripai, corporate leader Dato Sri Dr Benny Lee and organising chairman Danggang Ugik.
