KUCHING: Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen touched down at Kuching International Airport yesterday ahead of his debut appearance at the Asean International Film Festival and Award 2017 (AIFFA 2017) gala dinner at Pullman Hotel tonight.

Yen, who arrived on a Malindo Air flight around 8.30pm, was welcomed with a traditional dance performance at the airport’s VIP Arrival Hall.

He was then greeted by permanent secretary to the  Ministry of Tourism Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and AIFFA 2017 director Livan Tajang.

The star of the blockbuster ‘Ip Man’ movie series and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is scheduled to meet his fans at the Old Courthouse here from 2pm today.

The actor is celebrating the 35th anniversary of his career with his fans here.

The third edition of the three-day film festival that started on May 4 has seen numerous attractive events and activities rolled out for Kuching folk and the Asean community, including a free concert and movie screenings, educational film talks and creative sharing sessions.

Ever since the launch of AIFFA in 2013 in Kuching, it has showcased over 100 full-length features, short films, and documentaries from Malaysia, Southeast Asian nations, and the rest of the world.

Even for a relatively young film festival, among the biggest names to have graced the first two editions were international movie stars such as Datuk Jackie Chan and Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.
