TAMBUNAN: Three villages here have been selected to compete in the district level Premier Village Award (Anugerah Desa Perdana) organized by the Community Development Department (Kemas) this year, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

The participating villages are Kampung Tombotuon, Misodong and Babagon, all from this district.

Pairin said the participants were expected to be an example for other villages here to compete vigorously to develop the villages and the people, in line with the theme ‘Membandarkan Luar Bandar’.

“We hope the winner of this award will be successful at state and national levels,” he said when opening the Kemas Kindergarten Children’s Potential Day for Keningau parliamentary level held at Kampung Tombotuon here on Thursday.

On the Potential Children’s Day, Pairin said it was a co-curriculum activity to be conducted every year in parliament and state levels.

Pairin who is also the Infrastructure Development Minister, said the objective of the program was to provide opportunities for children to show their talent and abilities, and to develop their interests, talent and creativity from an early stage.

He said the program involved about 200 children from Kemas Keningau and Tambunan aged between five to six.

Also present at the program were state Kemas deputy director Mohammed Abu Bakar, District Officer Thomas Logijin, Tambunan Community Development leader Silverius Bruno, District Chief OKK Philip Kitingan and Keningau Kemas officer Mohamad Yusli Nassir.
