MINISTRY of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports will look into whether there is a need to build a civic centre in Bintangor where population is growing.

“The building of the civic centre depends very much on the availability of fund,” said Assistant Minister for Youth  and Sports Snowdan Lawan when replying a question by Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (BN-Meradong) in the august House here yesterday.

At present, Snowdan said there was a dewan masyarakat in Bintangor which could accommodate about 600 people.

He added that the current facility could be used for ‘any civic function’.

To a supplementary question from Ding, the Assistant  Minister said there were 12 civic centres throughout the state.

“All of them were built in the 1980s and early 1990s at a cost ranging from RM1.4 million such as that in Sri Aman and RM20 million in Kuching.”

He added that a civic centre should comprise main hall, sport area, office, administration block, toilets and parking spaces.
