Build township in Murum, Chukpai urges govt

A government backbencher yesterday proposed for a Murum service centre or Murum Township be built to further enhance the tourism industry in the area.

Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (BN-Murum) said Murum was rich in flora and fauna, and its tropical rainforest landscape to be developed as a bodiversity hub. Also, Murum has great potential to become a tourist destination.

“To further enhance develoment in Murum, I suggest that a Murum service centre or Murum Township be built under Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) secondary growth nodes.

“It will also become a research and development (R&D) centre for ICT hub, biodiversity and tourism industry,” he told the august House when debating the TYT’s address yesterday.

Chukpai also proposed that the government develop eco-tourism centre in Murum and further develop the existing Homestay facility in Sg Asap and the surrounding areas.

On the digital economy, he hoped the government would build more communication towers in the constituency.

Chukpai said people in several areas like Ulu Sg Jelalong, Tubau, Sg Linau and Lusong had yet to enjoy telecommunication connectivity facility.
