KUCHING: Executive College (EC) students taking its Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Construction Management programme recently completed three months of industrial training with various companies in Kuching.

The industrial training served to provide students pre-professional work experience with specific assignments and responsibilities in the construction industry.

It exposes students to construction project planning and management and helps them make informed decisions and improve their marketability after graduation.

The participating companies included Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Hung Hua Sdn Bhd, MASTH Builder Sdn Bhd, KTS Resources Sdn Bhd, Pembinaan MJS Sdn Bhd, GRE Engineering Solutions, PCSS Consultancy Sdn Bhd, Sri Datai Construction (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, NAIM Engineering Sdn Bhd and Peranan Makmur Sdn Bhd.

Through the experience, the students had the opportunity to sharpen skills such as utilising Microsoft Excel and project planning software, enhance workplace communication skills, learn healthy work ethics, practise problem-solving and many more.

“I acquired real practical experience, especially on project planning and development. It was a valuable and interesting experience for me,” said student Andra Tan Azrani who completed the industrial training.

“I gained new insights and was able to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the construction industry’s working conditions and practices. I believe my experience will be useful in my future career,” said another student, Apple Lai Sze Yii.

The Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Construction Management programme offered in EC is a three-year degree awarded by Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur.
