TAWAU: There is no need to ‘hire’ the Opposition to voice grouses.

“We have so many other ways like the social network and the media. Plus, in any case, the government seldom hears the voice of the Opposition, but we listen to the voices and act on the demands of the grassroots,” said acting Parti Bersatu Sabah president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili at the Tawau Chinese Community Social Gathering Dinner here on Thursday.

He reiterated that Barisan Nasional is still the best option despite its weaknesses.

“BN is not perfect. Yet, it is still the best option. BN is still the credible and proven platform for Sabah’s prosperity,” Ongkili further explained said.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister said PBS is the only truly multiracial party in Malaysia, and is stronger than any race-based parties.

He said PBS membership comprised Dusun (40 per cent), Tiong Hua (30 per cent) and Muslim (30 per cent).

“We fight for basic rights and needs of all races. We are practitioners of moderation.

“PBS is the original fighters for state rights and and the controversial Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.

The Kota Marudu Member of Parliament added that it was a waste of time and opportunity to vote for the opposition.

“In a changing political world where fairness and justice, transparency and good governance are the maxims of an elected government, the true voice of the people are the grassroots through direct representation and social media.

“You don’t need to hire the opposition to speak up for the minority. We in BN listen to your plights. Let us help you,” he said.

Over 500 people from the Chinese non-government organisations attended the event.
