MARUDI: A total of 595 households from 43 longhouses in Beluru District received flood aid of RM500 each from the National Disaster Relief Management Agency (Nadma).

The aid was for the second wave of floods that affected their homes from Feb 26 to March 17 this year.

The aid was presented by Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who is Marudi assemblyman, on behalf of the Civil Defence Force (Angkatan Pertahanan Awam — APM) at the Beluru Community Hall yesterday morning.

During the ceremony, Penguang expressed his thanks to APM, Beluru District Office, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Welfare Department, Royal Malaysia Police and other agencies for their involvement in the flood management and monitoring the situation.

He praised them for their full cooperation in helping to transport relief items like food, and evacuation.

He said the aid was not compensation for those affected by the flood but it was to lighten their burden.

“I urge all the recipients to use and spend the money wisely and for buying what they really need and not for buying alcohol,” he reminded.

Present were Beluru district officer Mohd Rashdan Hazemi, Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai, APM representative Lieutenant Mirwan Shah Masri and local community leaders.
