SIBU: The 6th edition of Hii King Leng-Top Sports Star Award (HKL-TSS) and the HKL Sports Volunteer Extraordinaire Awards (HKL-SVE) are now open for application by state athletes and volunteers.
Award initiator and 2015 Tokoh Sukan Dr Gregory Hii Sui Cheng invited all athletes who had represented Sarawak at the national level championship to apply for the award.
Hii said that they have so far received about 20 entries, with the applications from Miri contributing the bulk.
“We are happy that out of 20 entries, about 10 are from Miri. We hope to get more entries from outside the central region to make the HKL-TSS award a truly Sarawakian affair,” he said.
Hii disclosed that entries from those outside the central region had not been satisfactory in the past five editions.
There are 20 awards for the HKL-TSS each year. Successful candidate will receive RM600 per year, for a period of two consecutive years.
Meanwhile, Hii said they have yet to receive any applications for the HKL-SVE award.
The sports volunteer extraordinaire award is meant for sports personalities, such as managers, coaches, leaders, volunteers or even financiers who have contributed significantly towards the development of sports in the state.

The completed forms should reach HKL Sports stars selection committee, c/o Delta Leasing, 16, Ground Floor, Tuanku Osman Road by June 15.
