KUCHING: Construction of the Institute for Rural Advancement (Infra) Sarawak branch in Kota Samarahan is currently ahead of schedule.

This latest update was relayed to Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi during his recent visit to the campus project site at Muara Tuang Land District on May 26.

Nanta expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project undertaken by the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia which is now expected to be completed by Feb 2018.

In view of this, Nanta hoped the good progress can be maintained until the project is fully completed so as to prevent any extension period of the project or additional costs which could result in loss for the government.

He also hoped that the implementing agencies and contractor can ensure compliance with technical aspects of the contract specifications as well as not to compromise on the quality of construction.

Meanwhile, according to JKR Malaysia Building Special Project Team project (main) enforcer representative Aw Joon Ching, the project scheduled to run for 18 months has so far been running smoothly due to the great cooperation between the contractor, consultant, implementing department and client.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of four building blocks comprising the administrative office, academic block, hostel and dining hall.

Once completed, the campus will also house Infra Sarawak branch office and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) Sarawak office.

It will be equipped with auditorium facilities, lecture rooms, discussion rooms, computer labs, library, dining hall and hostel which can accommodate up to 250 course participants at one time.

Present during the visit were KKLW secretary-general Datuk Borhan Dolah, JKR Malaysia implementing agency representatives and KKLW Sarawak officers.
