Green has dinner with The Borneo Post reporter James Ling in Kapit.

KAPIT: A Canadian tourist, who felt cheated by a so-called tourist guide here, has been shown true hospitality by Kapit folk.

Philip Green was recently charged RM260 for a half-day tour of what he thought was a traditional longhouse.

“I don’t know his name. He introduced himself to me saying he was able to fulfil my wish to visit an old longhouse,” a disappointed Green told The Borneo Post.

“When we reached the longhouse, it was empty and I was told later they moved to a new longhouse. Nothing left in the longhouse – no people, nothing.”

A civil servant on Gawai Dayak leave learnt of Green’s predicament and invited the visitor to his longhouse at Ulu Sungai Melipis.

Green stayed at the longhouse from May 29 to June 1, and also had the rare opportunity to visit several other longhouses along Sungai Melipis to feel the true  spirit of the celebration.

“One thing for sure, I’ve been to many places. To me Malaysia, and especially people in Sarawak, are friendly and they’re very helpful. I feel very comfortable here,” he said.

After Kapit, Green is scheduled to go to Belaga, Bintulu, Batu Niah, and Miri, where he will visit the Mulu Caves.

He also plans to visit Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan in Sabah before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
