LIMBANG: A woman was killed while her younger sister was badly injured after a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle crashed into a food stall they were manning in front of their house here.

The incident at Kampung Gumaya on Saturday afternoon occurred when 54-year-old Tampai Molok and her 48-year-old sibling Suma Molok were selling breaking-of-fast dishes as well as Hari Raya cookies.

Tampai succumbed to serious head and body injuries at Limbang Hospital while Suma sustained injuries to her waist and head.

District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai disclosed that the driver of the 4WD, a foreign national, reportedly lost control of the vehicle prior to ramming into the stall.

“The stall was completely damaged in the incident.

“The two siblings were said to have been unaware of the oncoming vehicle and were unable to run to safety.

“The incident also caused slight damage to two vehicles parked in front of the house,” he said when contacted yesterday.

According to Mohd Bukhori, the 35-year-old driver was detained for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The situation at the scene was said to be tense as family members and relatives of the two siblings, including their neighbours, were shocked and angry over the incident.

The presence of the police and other villagers managed to bring the situation under control before it could turn ugly.
