MIRI: A physically-disabled man with a prior arrest record for drug-related offences was arrested on Saturday night for alleged possession of narcotics.
The 50-year-old was nabbed by police during a routine check at Krokop 9 after he was spotted behaving suspiciously inside a car by the roadside.
Deputy district police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said a body search carried out on the suspect did not uncover any illegal substance.
“However, upon checking his car, the police found two plastic packets containing a crystalline substance believed to be Syabu weighing approximately 27.54 grammes. The suspect also tested positive for abusing the drug amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said when confirming the case yesterday.
Stanley also disclosed the suspect was believed to be actively peddling drugs in Krokop and had previously been arrested for drug-related offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 39(A)(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug possession, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.
