KUCHING: Police arrested a suspected illegal lottery agent during an anti-gambling operation at Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya here on Saturday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the suspect, who tested negative for drugs and did not possess any criminal record, was detained during an ‘Ops Dadu’ operation mounted by personnel from the district police headquarters.

“A mobile phone, stationery, portable printer, betting slips and cash amounting to RM32 were seized from him,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The case is being probed under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

In an unrelated case, Abang Ahmad disclosed that a pub manager was arrested after the premises was found to be operating beyond permitted hours early Saturday morning.

He said the 54-year-old man was detained after a team from the state police headquarters raided the entertainment outlet at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.

Equipment in the form of a sound system, a speaker, a DVD player, a microphone, five VCD discs and beverage receipts were also seized during the raid. The case is being investigated under the Entertainment By-Law 2000.
