KUCHING: A 30-year-old man will spend Hari Raya behind bars after he was sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment yesterday for committing criminal intimidation on his biological father.
Yunus Marjuno had pleaded guilty to the charge framed against him under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Presiding magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng ordered the custodial sentence to take effect immediately.
Yunus admitted to have threatened to kill his 62-year-old father at his house at Lorong 2, Sungai Tengah in Matang near here at 2am on June 19.
He had also threatened to set fire on the house and cause damages to properties in the house.
His father immediately lodged a police report after his son had acted aggressively.
Police arrested him in the house after responding to the distress call.
In mitigation, the accused asked for leniency as he was remorseful and also said this was his first crime.
Prosecuting officer ASP Hisyam Junaidi urged the court to impose appropriate sentence as the offence was committed on his elderly parent.
