MIRI: Miri Petroleum Ladies Association (PWPM)  actively conduct activities that promote not only cross-cultural exchange among its multi-national members but also to enable its members and the public to contribute back to the community.

Its president Srimuniyatii Cranfield said one of their community projects was the Charity Week which entered its third year this year.

“This year’s charity week from June 12 to 16) focused on helping to ease organisations involving less fortunate children and home for the aged here that do not receive any monetary support from the government.

“We have allocated RM10,000 for charity programmes this year, from funds collected through activities that we have held throughout the year,” she said yesterday.

The beneficiaries were Cleft, Lip and Palate Association (Clapam) of Columbia Asia Hospital, Miri Home for the Aged at Krokop, National Autism Society of Malaysia at Taman Piasau Edar, Pibakis/PDK Miri at Lutong and Rumah Anjung Kasih YKN of Miri Hospital.

Cranfield added that only Rumah Anjung Kasih received the aid through food coupons project, whereas RM2,000 was given to each of the four other organisations.

“The Rumah Anjung Kasih project is a joint project with Shell Outpost group. The project provides food daily to family members accompanying patients from rural areas or from a poor background. Their accommodation is provided by Miri Hospital.

“We greatly appreciate the support provided by QM Enterprise and Miri Hospital canteen operator for this food coupon project,” she said.

PWPM, a non-profit organisation, has over 120 members from 13 countries.

Meanwhile, their next event is a gathering for the joint celebrations of Keamatan, Gawai and Hari Raya, on July 4. It will be held at their premises near Piasau Nature Reserve.
