KUCHING: Snowdan Lawan wants his rural state constituency of Balai Ringin upgraded to a sub-district so that the constituents could receive better and efficient administration services.
Another valid reason for the elevation is the ever-growing population and rapid pace of development in the constituency, the Balai Ringin assemblyman explained yesterday.
“My constituents simply have to travel all the way to Serian to get official and administrative matters done. A Balai Ringin sub-district will also benefit residents of neighbouring Kedup,” he pointed out.
The areas surrounding Balai Ringin bazaar, which has shop lots, schools, a library, mosque, clinic, wet market and an army camp, have a population of 7,000.
Meanwhile, Snowdan, who is Assistant Minster of Youth and Sports, took time to visit some Muslim residents in Balai Ringin on Monday.
Accompanying him for the Hari Raya Aidilfitiri open house visits were his wife Melinda Claudia Bucking and several close aides.
