Cummins ramps up power in Malaysia

KUCHING: Global power leader Cummins Inc (Cummins) is spreading its enormous influence as a global business and technology leader in Malaysia through its new platform Cummins Sales and Service Sdn Bhd (Cummin Sales and Service).

The stage was set for a new era for customers, with far greater commitment to sales, service and parts support when Cummins decided to establish its own distribution business in Malaysia.

“Through Cummins Sales and Service Sdn Bhd, customers now also have a legitimate channel of genuine Cummins products designed to provide the best reliability, durability and performance backed by industry-leading support,” Cummins sales and service general manager Jason Chong said.

With 10 branch locations in Malaysia, Cummins Sales and Service is committed to providing exceptional support for all genuine Cummins engines, generators, and related components. All branches are staffed by Cummins trained and certified professionals.

“The key reason for Cummins establishing its own distribution business in Malaysia is to allow us to work more closely with our customers, to be more responsive to an increasing set of demands by our customers,” Chong said. “This is central to our vision: Consistently delivering seamless, world-class service and supporting our customers regardless of geography and product type each and every time.

“We can now deliver the full power of the Cummins brand to meet every customer need including improved parts availability and inventory management and more consistent technical support.

“We are now a ‘One Cummins’ team working without boundaries towards a common goal – coordinating effectively to enable higher levels of productivity, growth and customer satisfaction.”

Preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2019, Cummins pioneered the development of commercial diesel engines. Today, the company is the world’s largest independent diesel engine manufacturer with a range spanning 2.8 to 95 litres. It also produces gas engines from 5.9 to 91 litres, a wide range of diesel and alternative-fueled electrical generator sets from 2.5 to 3,500 kilowatts (kW), plus numerous related components and technologies.

In Malaysia, Cummins has achieved a market-leading position in the commercial marine, power generation, construction and automotive markets – a position it does not take for granted.

“The Cummins name is about commitment, not compromise,” Chong said. “We have a great tradition of market leadership and innovative products and we have tough benchmarks we must achieve in servicing our customers and products. Building partnerships with our customers is what our business is all about.”

The issue of non-genuine parts and their effect on product performance is very real in Malaysia due to the popularity of Cummins engines. Non-genuine parts may fit a Cummins engine but they aren’t built using the same processes or materials, to Cummins’ exacting specification.

“Non-genuine parts typically don’t last as long as genuine parts, making it necessary to replace them more frequently. Using non-genuine parts not only leads to more repairs and the need for genuine replacements,” Chong said.

“Genuine parts include the latest upgrades in design, material and manufacturing technology, and are backed 100 per cent by Cummins’ full factory warranty.”
