SIBU: Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming has commended Sibu Martial Arts (Quanshu) Association (SMAA) for taking the initiative to organise the 7th Borneo International Martial Arts Tournament at Sibu Indoor Stadium from July 22-23.

Over 300 wushu exponents from 20 teams including those from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Macau, Johore, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Malacca and Sarawak will be taking part.

Lau will grace the opening ceremony on July 22 at 2pm while Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and E-commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is expected to close the event on July 23 at 3pm.

Meanwhile, SMAA members led by their president Yung Dah Loo called on Lau last Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion, Lau said the tournament will help upgrade the status of Sibu when it comes to the promotion of wushu.

Earlier, Yung said the tournament, jointly organised by SMAA and Sarawak Chenshi Taijiquan Association, is among the activities to mark Visit Sibu Year 2017.

“The tournament will help thrust Sibu on the window to the world. Hopefully, the people will lend us their support and come to attend the show as we do not charge any entrance fee,” he added.
