KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) held its Ngabang Raya Celebration 2017 with the theme ‘Colours of Sarawak’ yesterday.

Unimas vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said it was an opportunity for everyone to put their differences behind and strengthen their commitment to work together.

Mohamad Kadim said he hoped the respect all cultures have for each other would translate into the work culture of Unimas.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib were guests of honour.

For the ‘Teratak Manah’ 2017 competition, 16 centres built and decorated their own houses or ruai and also sent representatives to compete for four titles – Raja Songket, Ratu Keringkam, Keling Gawai, and Kumang Gawai.

Among those present were Unimas pro-chancellor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang and his wife Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu; Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi; Kota Samarahan member of Parliament Rubiah Wang; deputy consul-general of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Zhang Yang; as well as Unimas board of directors chairman Datu Dr Hatta Solhi and his wife Datin Mariam Dawood.
