MARUDI: Marudi District Council (MDC) has allocated 320 stalls for selling various kinds of goods and food during the coming Baram Regatta Festival.

Applications to operate the stalls are open to those interested, said MDC chairman Edward Mendai at a press conference in his office yesterday.

He also said applicants, who must be Malaysians, must attend the draw to select successful vendors at 3pm on Aug 21 at the MDC office.

Successful applicants will then be issued with permits from MDC under the Marudi District Council By-Laws, Section 3.1 Hawking By-Laws 1962, he added.

He cautioned that successful applicants cannot rent their permits but must operate the stalls themselves.

At the same time, he also reminded prospective stall holders that alcohol is not allowed to be sold or served at the stalls and hawkers must display price tags on goods they sell.

On the charges, he said the rate will be RM100 (for individuals) and RM200 (for company) for a 10×10 ft canopy for a period of four days from Aug 24 to 27.

He also said applicants should only deal with MDC for the permits as it had not appointed any agent.

All materials such as cooking utensils, chairs and tables should be borne by the traders, he added.

Besides that, traders are also responsible to arrange for their own electricity and water supply, and the council will not be responsible for any loss of property or damage, he said.

He said the application form may be obtained from the council from July 17 and must be returned with the permit payment on Aug 21 at 3pm.
