The yet-to-be tar-sealed Bajau Road.

SARATOK: Villagers of Kampung Kupang here are complaining about the poor condition of Bajau Road, which is yet to be tar-sealed despite their ongoing requests for it over the past two decades.

According to them, upgrading works on the 21-kilometre gravel stretch commenced last year during the tenure of the state’s fifth chief minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“Unfortunately till now, the road remains dusty on dry days, and muddy on rainy days.

“Our children returning home for Hari Raya recently expressed to us their shock at seeing the road still in a deplorable condition,” one of the villagers said.

A spokesperson said they acknowledged that any upgrading works might take some time but in Bajau Road’s case, it had taken a bit too long.

The road is the key connectivity for the villagers to go to Saratok Hospital.

“The bad condition of the road is really a disservice whenever we need to rush those in need of emergency medical attention to the hospital,” said the spokesperson for the villagers, adding to travel via the Krian River was not a good and safe choice for them due to the risk of bumping into crocodiles.
