KUCHING: Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is planning a series of courses for its members involved in the construction industry to improve their competency, especially those under the Contractor Class G1 – G3.

Its executive secretary Terence Temenggong Jayang said the courses on ‘Modul Pengurusan Bisnes’ (Business Management Module) are recommended for contractors having the capability to undertake RM500,000 worth of projects.

He pointed out that it is mandatory for contractors registered with Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) to attend the course.

“The course outline covers networking, human resource management, basic accounting, legislation and policy, funding and project financing,” he said yesterday.

He mentioned that DCCI held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the preparation for these courses, which would kick off in Sarikei on Sept 12 to 15.

He said for a start, there are only 40 places available for the course in Sarikei and he called on contractors from Sarikei, Julau, Kanowit, Saratok, Pakan and Bintangor to register for the course. A CIDB- certified trainer Campbell Apau of Prime Mover Consultants has been invited to conduct the course.

Registration for the course in Sarikei will be on a ‘first come first serve basis’. DCCI members are only requested to pay the commitment fee of RM50 if they are a potential contractor and RM100 for existing registered CIDB contractors. They are also to make their own arrangements for transport and accommodation.

“Course registration from non DCCI members can be considered only if there are available places for them,” a statement from DCCI said.

It also said that upon completion of the course, the participating contractors will be entitled to collect 24 Contractor Continuous Development (CCD) points.

Those wanting to know more on the course can contact DCCI secretariat at 082-420020, 082-424602 or 082-42582.
