DALAT:  A Centexs (Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak) training centre should be set up in Dalat at Dalat Service Centre, suggested its assemblywoman Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah, who is Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, said such a centre will spell greater opportunities for students in Dalat to further their studies.

She was speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Melanau Heritage Gallery at Stadium Perpaduan Dalat by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg recently.

According to her, in terms of academic achievement, Dalat district education office was ranked top among the 31 district education offices in the state.

“It placed 30th out of 139 district education offices nationwide,” she added.

She also noted that a total of 1,267 students have benefited from the one-off Dalat Education Assistance Scheme applicable to studies undertaken at certificate, diploma or degree levels.

Meanwhile, the Melanau Heritage Gallery will showcase Oya history, Melanau heritage and culture and the economic activities of the Melanau community in Oya and Dalat.

The first floor of the gallery has been set aside for Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Melayu Oya (Lakmo), Perkim and a meeting room.
